Fellowship and Career Programs

Fellowship Programs

The Center’s training programs are part of a VA-UCLA-RAND Multi-Campus Primary Care and Health Services Research Fellowship Program that integrates research, education and mentoring activities across three VA-funded fellowship programs (Ambulatory Care and Women’s Health Fellowship Programs for physician postdoctoral fellows and the Associated Health Postdoctoral Fellowship Program for PhD postdoctoral fellows) alongside UCLA National Research Service Award (NRSA) primary care fellows and UCLA RWJ Clinical Scholars.

Fellowships for Physicians
The UCLA/VA Multicampus Primary Care and Health Services Research Fellowship Program provides primary and ambulatory care-oriented physicians with the necessary skills to become effective and creative leaders in shaping health care and health policy. Applicants must have completed an accredited residency training program and be United States Citizens. Three programs are administered jointly:

  • VA Ambulatory Care Fellowship. Open to general internists, internal medicine sub-specialists, family physicians and psychiatrists.
  • VA Women's Health Fellowship. For primary care physicians, obstetricians and gynecologists interested in research in women's health.
  • Primary Care Research Fellowship. Open to general internists, family physicians and pediatricians.

Associated Health Professions Post-Doctoral Fellowship Program
This two-year Fellowship is intended to train creative, independent, ethical and productive leaders in health services research who will advance the VA's research agenda far into the future. It is open to United States citizens who have recently completed a doctoral degree in any of the professional disciplines of health services research, such as the social and behavioral sciences, epidemiology, statistics, management, and nursing.

Career Programs

The Office of Research and Development (ORD) is pleased to announce a new career development program that streamlines career development opportunities across services into one ORD-wide program. As always, this career development program is designed to attract, develop and retain talented VA researchers in areas of particular importance to VA by providing a well-constructed, mentored research development experience. The new program is intended to clarify, simplify, and enhance VA research career development opportunities for clinicians and non-clinicians. The program was developed by an ORD-wide work group and has been vetted by the Field Research Advisory Committee, the National Research Advisory Committee, and VA research center directors.
