United States Department of Veterans Affairs
Center for the Study of Healthcare Provider Behavior

Research Mission and Projects

Our research mission is to promote better health and healthcare for veterans by understanding healthcare provider behavior, the factors that influence it, and the health systems interventions that will improve it. Our process is to identify theoretical and empirical models of healthcare provider behavior and quality care and then develop, refine and evaluate health care systems interventions based on these models. In the course of our research, we also work to identify and propose solutions for methodologic problems confronting health systems interventions, including those based on statistical, epidemiologic, and data collection techniques. Our researchers belong to a consortium of institutions that support Center of Excellence activities. Consortium members include:

Center Projects - Listing of active and completed VA HSR&D funded research projects. The Center emphasizes observational, interventiona and implementation research studies related to provider behavior, quality improvement, collaborative care models, and assessments of VA structure and processes related to quality.
